Enclave by Ann Aguirre

Enclave (Razorland #1) by Ann Aguirre
Publish Date: April 12, 2011
Source: Publisher (Feiwel & Friends)
Summary:
New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

My Thoughts:

Since this debut book comes out tomorrow (officially) you are probably wondering weather it is worth buy or getting a spot reserved for your library's copy. Short answer? Yes.
The dystopian genre is among one of my favorite YA genres right now. So you can imagine my excitement when I received this book.

Enclave was a very original book. A lot of dystopian concepts are there but Ann Aguirre twists them into her own original story. I love how there was romance in the story(like there always should be in the books I read)but the romance wasn't the main plot, it was more like a sub-plot.

Dauce, the main character, is one of the toughest chicks out there. Her dream of becoming a Huntress has finally come true, but meeting Fade might turn that dream right into a nightmare. She gets Exiled from the safe and dark tunnels of the Enclave to the unknown that is the Topside. This is where the real action begins. Now, don't get me wrong, this book starts in an amazing fast pace, but we start seeing a new side of Deuce that we have never seen before that happened. She starts to question the reality that her Enclave had told her, and starts looking for the answers herself.

Then there is Fade: dreamy Hunter, tough boy, mysterious and totally crush-worthy. At first, he is seen as a total mystery in Deuces eyes but when the story unfolds, they start to develop a sort of relationship that would not be allowed in the Enclave world.

In the end, Ann didn't leave us with much of a cliffhanger per say, but she left me wanting more. With a possible love-triangle developing and a new world discovered, I cannot wait for the second installment of Enclave.

I like the concept of the book and I've heard it's got a different twist than some of the other dystopians that are out there now.
