Question of the Week:

Q. Genre Wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?

Recently I have been crazy about YA Dystopan. Ever since I read the Hunger Games, I fell in love with the genre. I have many other favorites such as Divergent and Delirium. Dystopian books just give you a glimpse to an alternative universe, and I love that about it.

HAPPY FRIDAY!

DIVERGENT sequel title reveal!

So if you didn't know already, the title of Veronica Roth's sequel to DIVERGENT is.....

*drum roll*

So what do you guys think? You can read the entire post HERE.
I am going to have some problems saying it for a while, but I love it. Very DIVERGENT!

INSURGENT is scheduled to be released in 2012, which is pretty painful! But re-reading DIVERGENT will totally make up for it, and I am sure it will be worth the wait!

Here's part of the blog post:

INSURGENT. Origin:
1755–65; < Latin insurgent- (stem of insurgÄ“ns ) present participle of insurgere: to get up, ascend, rebel.

1. a person who rises in forcible opposition to lawful authority, especially a person who engages in armed resistance to a government or to the execution of its laws; rebel.
2. a member of a section of a political party that revolts against the methods or policies of the party.
3. one that acts contrary to the established leadership (as of a political party, union, or corporation) or its decisions and policies
4. (international law) a person or group that rises in revolt against an established government or authority but whose conduct does not amount to belligerency

Not all of those definitions are equally applicable to the book-- some are more spot-on than others. But I won't tell you which ones yet.

In Stores TODAY: Hourglass

Hourglass by Myra McEntire
Release Date: June 14, 2011
Watch out for: Some kissing and bad words but nothing R rated. Pretty clean.
Publisher: Egmont USASource: from Publisher
Summary (from Goodreads.com):
One hour to rewrite the past . . .
For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.

My thoughts on Hourglass:
Based on the cover and the summary provided, you will never know what the book REALLY is about. They did such a good job on making this book as mysterious sounding as they could. As for the cover, there was not a single day in school (where I read it) that somebody didn't make a comment about the wicked cool cover on this book.

I honestly thought that this book was going to be about your typical teenager who starts seeing ghosts and gets thrown into a loony-bin called "Hourglass". But, no it wasn't. It was much more than that. Now, I am not going into full blown detail about it, so you can be as surprised as I was.

Emerson is a quirky teen girl who behind all that sarcasm hides a big secret: she can see things that are not there. Michael is the only one that can help her, he also sees the thing she sees, which might now make her as crazy as she thinks she is.

Emerson's mysteriously alluring story had me reading like a madwoman. Such an alluring and mysterious story plot with characters with such a good chemistry between each other. Well except for the bad guys, and lemme tell you, there is a fair amount of bad guys here. I mean, who doesn't love a little antagonism now and then? There is no good story plot without a bad guy.

Emerson and Michael are such a highly comedic couple, every word that Emerson said was sarcastically hilarious and Michael just had such an amusing reaction to everything Emerson had to say. Kaleb (possible love triangle alert!) was another character that was charming (at times) and he captivated my heat as soon as I read about him being drunk and naked on the couch (nothing to worry about, pretty hilarious scene).

The impossible romance that develops through the story, will have all the suckers for romance sighing and crying at times. I know I did plenty of both.

I see so much potential to learn about the other characters as the series develops and to read about all the craziness that Emerson get herself into. So that is why I am giving this story a little bit of leverage on the lack of explanation when it comes to some things, there are two more books coming so the story will probably develop much further then.

There is so much to cover about this book that I would probably make this post longer than it already is, so if you want to read a refreshing new plot story with some entertaining characters, then Hourglass is for you.

Hope you go check it out, Hourglass hits bookstores TODAY!

My rating:

4 Butterflies
Should be a 4.5 but don't have a butterfly for that! =(

What's Next?
Hourglass #2 is the title at the moment.
Set to be published 2012.

About the Author
:
Myra McEntire (Debut Author)

Bio:
Myra McEntire knows the words to every R&B hit of the last decade, but since she lives in Nashville, the country music capital of America, her lyrical talents go sadly unappreciated. This Weeks Question:

Q. It's circle time. Time for us to open up and share. Can you tell us FIVE quirky habits or things about you? We all have them...

  1. I have major book OCD, if the book cover is damaged or the corners are bent, I look for another book. I will check every book in the pile to see which one is the one in the best condition.
  2. Cockroaches are my biggest fear, I have a sort of phobia with the little critters. I saw one last night, screamed, killed it, and didn't go back to sleep. That is how bad my fear is.
  3. I have a weird thumb that can bend back unnaturally. I bend it back to creep my friends, it works every time.
  4. I am obsessed with RITZ crackers, I cannot have just one. Especially if they have some cream cheese on em.
  5. I use anything as a bookmark: napkin, sock (clean), pencil, you name it. As long as it doesn't stain the book or damage it in any way, I use it. I just can't keep track of bookmarks.
Sooooo what are your 5 quirky habits?
